Here is a great article from Dog’s Naturally. I am a big fan of all the professionals who write their article. Dog’s Naturally educates indivudals and business in pet nutrition.

Transitioning is a different process for everyone:

For those who want to start slower we recommend this gradual 2 week transition:

Day 1-5: 75% of current food in AM and 25% raw food in PM
Day 6-10: 50% of current food in AM and 50% raw food in PM
Day 10-14: 25% of current food in AM and 75% raw food in PM
Day 14 on: 100% raw food

Some folks like to transition immediately due to the fact their pet is having chronic issues.

I have found both ways to will work. If you do decide to feed part kibble and your pet has lost interest in kibble meals it would be okay to fully transition them to raw.

IMPORTANT: RAW FOOD AND KIBBLE SHOULD NOT be fed within 5 hours of each other. They have different digestion rates and this will cause tummy aches.

Oma’s Pride Feeding Calculator link

About 2% to 3% of the dogs bodyweight. That means for a 50 lb dog 1 lb of meat.

Puppies need more Food. About 3% of the Adults weight. They also need more Calcium to build their teeth and bones. If they do not get enough the body will take it out of the bones which causes deformities. Recommended 3 feedings up to 6 months of age.

2 times a day feeding is recommended.

Oma’s Pride’s philosophy is that an animal’s diet should be “as nature intended.” That’s why we are dedicated to providing dogs and cats with the truly all-natural, raw diet they were meant to enjoy. All of Oma’s Pride’s ingredients are specific to what they would find in the wild (and nothing more) to ensure they are provided with the proper nutrition to live long, healthy, happy lives.

1. Raw Diet Must Have Calcium
10-15% should be Bone, about 1/3 of their meal
Meat is high in Phosphorus and low in Calcium

2. Organs are their Multivitamins
10-30% should be mixed Organs
Start easy to prevent diarrhea
Very Nutritious
Meat Muscle is foundation

3. Watch the Fat
10-20% MAX
Fat is healthy for the nervous system and skin but high in calories
If the diet is too high in fat the dog can not absorb enough vitamins

4. Fruits and Veggies
They are a good source of Fiber and Antioxidants

5. Variety Counts
Keep it interesting, add Trachea to their diet for natural Glucosamine and Chondroitin which helps keep joints healthy

Please DO NOT defrost your pet’s food in the microwave. Defrosting meat in the microwave can cook the bones in the food. If you are in a rush to defrost I suggest using a bowl of WARM water and in about 30 min or less enough should have defrosted to serve a meal.

Here are some general guidelines for our from about their products…

“We have found that feeding like the European breeders we learned from, feeding green tripe daily as the core of the diet, has resulted in very
healthy and long-lived dogs. This means green tripe is 50% or more of the daily food. We rotate between the various formulas depending upon the age and needs of each of our dogs. The entire food for the day can be one of our green tripe formulas.

You can also use green tripe every day with other raw meats if you want to vary the protein sources for your dog. We recommend feeding at least 1/2 of the daily food in green tripe when feeding a varied protein source raw diet.

100% Green Tripe:
This basic formula is good for all dogs of all ages. Puppies can be started on this at about 4 weeks of age when their puppy teeth emerge. Tripe is highly accepted by dogs. Nearly all dogs seem to instinctively know it is good for them and it is often one food even picky eaters love. It is a perfect food for dogs with compromised kidney function (renal failure). In addition to having easily digested nutrients and probiotics, other important factors for these dogs are the phosphorous level is low, the calcium:phosphorus ratio is 1:1 and the high moisture content provides proper hydration of internal organs. Dogs with elevated liver enzymes have also responded well to the 100% Green Tripe.

Green tripe, especially from healthy grass fed animals as are products, is so beneficial to the dogs because it covers all the basic nutritional needs in natural balance as well as aiding digestion. When feeding green tripe on a regular basis, the partially digested plant matter in the grazing animals provides what you would need to otherwise prepare in a “veggie glop” for the dog. Also, the digestive enzymes, probiotics and prebiotics in the tripe eliminate the need to add supplements. Most healthy dogs will need some additional muscle meat, heart, cartilage and chews (raw meaty bones, etc.) to complete their needs.

Green Tripe w/ Trachea:
The bovine trachea is a natural sources of chondroitin sulfate which makes this formula excellent for breeds prone to or dogs experiencing joint problems. This formula can also be good for heavy/large/giant breed pups that are being fed a combination diet with dry food. It can also be better than Xkaliber if a puppy is experiencing “pano” joint lameness from rapid growth (common in German Shepherds). This formula is also excellent for dogs who have cancer or are in remission as the trachea cartilage has also shown success in helping isolate cancers and tumors by preventing their growth and spread.

Xkaliber (Green Tripe, Heart, Tongue Trim, Trachea & Ground Bone):
This formula is excellent for growing, active and breeding dogs of all breeds. It is also excellent for pregnant females and lactating females. Fed in lesser amounts or mixed with either of the other 2 tripe formulas can be very helpful in maintaining muscle tone and joint health in older dogs without being too rich. This formula can also be a good food for dogs with cancer, depending upon age and diet (sometimes in combination with Green Tripe w/ Trachea & Gullet formula).

Tripe/Organ Meat Blend:
Where the previous formulas can be fed as a meal, this is a rich organ meat blend to be used as a supplement in the diet. The ingredients from most to least are heart, tongue, liver, lung, pancreas, green tripe and spleen. It is too rich to add to the Xkaliber formula. Small amounts of the Tripe.Organ Meat Blend can be added to the 100% Green Tripe or the Green Tripe w/ Trachea & Gullet formulas. When the dog is fed Xkaliber on a regular basis, the dog may only need 2 – 5% of the diet in this supplement. This supplement can also be added to a meal which is high in bone content to prevent constipation or blockage in the intestines.
